Leading to Certification as a Change & Transition Strategist
The Life Balance Professional Training Program encompasses the wisdom, tools, and protocols that Phillip Moffitt has developed over the past 25 years of doing Change & Transition Strategic consulting with individuals and groups. The foundation of Change & Transition Strategy work is to guide people through a deep inquiry about a central question in their lives such as how do I skillfully make a career change or how do I adapt to a difficult life situation or how do I go about achieving an important goal.
Values and Intentions: The Foundation of this Work
Whether in individual consulting sessions or at a group workshop, this inquiry often begins with an assessment of the primary domains of importance in the client’s life in order to identify areas of imbalance. A cornerstone of this process is to clarify values and intentions and so this is a key part of the work. Once there is clarity about what is out of balance and what the client’s core values and intentions are, we then work with time-tested protocols to create a plan for rebalancing, renewal, and revitalization. Throughout this process, we help clients see the ways in which they are undermining their well-being and causing suffering for themselves. We then focus on practical and change-oriented approaches to their challenges.
Our goal in this work is to help the client find clarity about their questions, real possibilities, and their values and intentions. This then empowers them to see the choices that they have and ultimately leads to well-being. This well-being is characterized by a sense of authenticity, wholeness, coherence and connectedness.
Learn to Lead Change & Transition Workshops and Other Group Programs
Working as a Change & Transition Strategist has two components -- offering group workshops and working with individuals one on one. The professional training delves deeply into both of these areas. In addition to gaining the skills and developing the wisdom one needs for this work, participants in the training report that they themselves go through a personal transformation.
The group work is primarily leading Changes & Transitions Workshops but also encompasses keynote talks, daylong presentations, and multi-day retreats. The Changes & Transitions workshops are comprised of a series of lectures and discussions, diagnostic self-assessments, and group processes that allow an individual to do a strategic assessment of their life and to envision possible changes and how to go about making these changes.
Learn to do Change & Transition Strategic Consulting with Individual Clients
Individual consultation sessions use protocols and diagnostic tools that Phillip Moffitt has developed over the past 25 years of working with people facing major decisions and life changes. The one-on-one consulting sessions are an hour to two hours in length and occur on a bi-weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis. Although we utilize protocols, these sessions are crafted individually for each client based on the particular challenge that they bring to the first session.
Components of the Professional Training: When, Where, How Long
The professional training program consists of five 5-day retreats that take place in Northern California. The curriculum of each retreat will be split between learning how to offer the workshops and learning how to work with clients individually in the Change & Transition Strategy modality. There will also be sessions that focus on developing your skill and wisdom in relation to your own life and will support you in facing any issues in your life that you need to address. Another major component of the curriculum is how to establish your professional practice of this new field of work.
In addition to the five training retreats, there are homework assignments and live, online teaching in between the retreats. Of particular note, there are small group mentoring sessions in which Phillip Moffitt works with each trainee in regard to how they are working with clients and also in regard to their own identified personal work that needs attention. Participating in these mentoring sessions is not an option but a required part of the program.
This is a training program for those who wish to become professionally competent as a Change & Transition Strategist. The purpose of this training is for this work to become part of your career path. It may be used in conjunction with other work you are already doing such as psychotherapy, business consultation, or dharma teaching. Or, it may be your stand-alone professional work. Before applying for this training, it is important that you are clear that you are committed to offering this work professionally. This program is not currently being offered as a personal development program. Our goal is to see that Phillip Moffitt’s work is carried forward beyond his time of offering it and therefore to perpetuate this modality.
The one specific prerequisite for taking the Change & Transition Strategy Training is to attend a Changes & Transitions Workshop as a participant. The reason for this is for you to experience directly the benefits of this work and also to see if you would be comfortable playing the role of group leader. This is also an opportunity for us to observe your interpersonal skills as a participant in group process.
The tuition for the 2019 - 2020 program will be announced soon. You are responsible for your travel, meals, and lodging expenses. A quarterly tuition payment schedule is available. Upon successful completion of the program and certification by the institute, you will be assessed annual dues to maintain your Change & Transition Strategist certification. Completion of the program does not automatically ensure certification.

On a personal note, I have offered Life Balance work for 25 years emphasizing sustainability, mindfulness, and core values. It is deeply satisfying to aid others in developing a more authentic and empowered life. I have helped people make major decisions about career changes and personal life decisions. My own specialty has been working with leaders. However, I am envisioning that each trainee will find and develop their own niche in which they will offer Change & Transition Strategy services. For instance, a few possible areas of specialization are working with people facing the transition of retirement, or focusing on a particular professional sector such as the health care industry, or offering services to women in their 30’s making major life decisions. Based on my experience, this work is highly valued and once people discover it as an option, they are intrigued and quickly feel its meaningful and constructive effect on their lives.
My goal is to offer a training that is deeply inspiring and empowering.
