Mindfulness is a basic tool for self-soothing, which entails recognizing what our needs are in the moment, then bringing ourselves back into balance. The dharma reminds us of the impersonal nature of our suffering and provides us with refuge. We are then able to remember what we are about and dynamically engage with life.
