January 11, 2010, Tiburon, CA – Gain more life balance, well-being and joy.
Phillip Moffitt, Buddhist meditation teacher, author, co-guiding teacher of Spirit Rock Meditation Center and former editor-in-chief of Esquire magazine, has just launched dharmawisdom.org, a resource helping individuals live a values-based spiritual life in alignment with Buddhist principles.
Jack Kornfield, founder of Spirit Rock Meditation Center and one of the leading Buddhist teachers in America says, “Phillip is one of our best Buddhist teachers, wise, deep and compassionate- worth paying attention to.”
Moffitt says of the Web site and his intention in creating it: “It is important for people to know that they can find freedom and well-being in life, just as it is. My hope is that the Web site will inspire you to cultivate a mindfulness practice and that it will be a resource to you in living mindfully throughout your day.”
One of the most powerful aspects of Moffitt’s teaching and the main message of the Website is that it is possible to find meaning and joy in life even in the face of the difficulty and disappointment that everyone encounters on a regular basis. Whether one is coping with anxiety, loss, fear, anger, or any other challenging feeling, it is possible to experience a balanced mind and calm spirit through the practice of mindfulness.
Dharmawisdom.org offers practical tools to both seasoned Buddhist practitioners as well as those who want to learn about meditation and its benefits. The site features more than 90 audio recordings of Moffitt’s dharma talks, guided mindfulness meditations, and more than 40 articles (many of which were first published in Yoga Journal and Shambhala Sun).
A unique feature of this new site is a series of in-depth study guides and home practices on a variety of life issues such as happiness, changes and transitions, disappointment, and relationships. Each study guide includes an article and an audio talk by Phillip on the subject, and a series of questions for self-reflection. The Web site also offers visitors the opportunity to subscribe to regular newsletters and free e-teachings based on talks that Moffitt has given to the weekly meditation class he teaches in San Rafael, CA. There is a question and answer board where visitors can ask Moffitt a question as well as read recent questions and answers. Another attribute of the site is three different dharma discussion boards that allow visitors to connect to an online Buddhist community.
BIO:
After a successful entrepreneurial career that included leading the profitable turnaround of Esquire magazine during the 1980s, Phillip Moffitt left his position as chief executive officer and editor-in-chief of the publishing enterprise he created in order to devote himself to exploring the inner life. That journey led him to study Theravada Buddhism, Jungian psychology, yoga, Aikido, and various mind-body healing techniques. He subsequently founded the Life Balance Institute in Tiburon, California, to help others find more meaning and a greater sense of well-being in their lives. He began teaching mindfulness meditation and now leads retreats at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Northern California and at meditation centers around the country. He is the author of Dancing with Life: Buddhist Insights for Finding Meaning and Joy in the Face of Suffering (Rodale, 2008) and is currently writing a book on living skillfully.
